I had an entirely different post prepared for today. Had a post about how full of love and excitement my heart has been these last few weeks. And then we had a situation arise here on Kodiak that changed our day a little bit. I'm sure some of you saw the news. That there were two US Coast Guardsmen who were shot and killed here on Kodiak Island. The first murder in 11 years. Two men with families. With wives. With children. Two families whose entire lives were shattered in a … [Read more...]

I have a million things that I could talk about today. I could talk about the tears I shed when someone I consider to be a dear friend, though we've never met in person, messaged me on Twitter to let me know that she was expecting. She wanted to tell me, personally, before announcing it because of the struggle that we've had getting pregnant again. I cried not necessarily because I was upset that she was pregnant and I'm not, but because that simple gesture showed me that she cared and that … [Read more...]

This year we went out on a limb and gave our families a really custom and really sentimental gift. We sent gift cards, too just so they'd have something a little more "physical" to use for the holidays, but I think the highlight of their Christmas was this video we had made by our family friend and uber-talented neighbor Amy from Simply B Photos. One of the hardest aspects of being a military family is being away from family during the holidays. We love having our own lives and being able to … [Read more...]

We've been in debate on whether or not to send the Little Man off to PreSchool this year. I've talked about all of the reasons why Preschool would benefit him (and me) because of my work schedule and I've spilled my heart on how uncomfortable I am with the idea of someone else taking care of him. Being a parent means making these kinds of decisions...choices that will impact and benefit our family, our children, and our own lives. So after much deliberation, discussion and confiding in close … [Read more...]

When you're a kid, ten years seems like forever. An eternity that will never arrive. When you're 13, you want to be 16 so that you can drive. When you're 16 you want to be 18 so you can graduate. When you're 18 you want to be 21 so that you can drink and be considered an "adult." Time doesn't move quick enough and you're always reaching for that next thing...that next goal...that next milestone. Ten years ago this week seems like yesterday. I know the whole world will be stopping to remember … [Read more...]

Today, I’d like you guys to meet Lindsey from Campfire Song. She’s a fellow military spouse, mother of three kids all under the age of four, and has a FOURTH one on the way. Needless to say, she has her hands completely full. I met her through the kind and always encouraging comments she started leaving on my blog. She’s got a beautiful talent for writing and it’s no question that she is one of the most genuine people I’ve met through blogging. “If the Army wanted you to have a … [Read more...]

When you sign on to be a military spouse, no one tells you what you can really expect. If you have any involvement with the military, you’ve probably heard it said that “The Military is the mistress…and sometimes she gets all of the attention.” For those of us living with this reality, it can be tough. The hubs left for Coast Guard training just two short weeks after we said our vows. We’d had a whirlwind romance, and had just found out (three days before he left) that we were … [Read more...]

In honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day, would you take a second to click on the button and give us a thumbs up? Not a political one, there battle goes beyond politics. … [Read more...]

I have No Mom Talk Monday scheduled to go up tomorrow morning first thing…but because of the significance of this event in American History, I want to make sure that I document and remember (for the sake of my son and any future children) the emotions that I’m feeling right now as I sit here and wait for the official, un-tweeted announcement that Osama Bin Laden has been killed. I’m sitting here with my camera beside me, snapping photos from the television to document the moment. … [Read more...]
