I had an entirely different post prepared for today. Had a post about how full of love and excitement my heart has been these last few weeks. And then we had a situation arise here on Kodiak that changed our day a little bit. I'm sure some of you saw the news. That there were two US Coast Guardsmen who were shot and killed here on Kodiak Island. The first murder in 11 years. Two men with families. With wives. With children. Two families whose entire lives were shattered in a … [Read more...]

I have a million things that I could talk about today. I could talk about the tears I shed when someone I consider to be a dear friend, though we've never met in person, messaged me on Twitter to let me know that she was expecting. She wanted to tell me, personally, before announcing it because of the struggle that we've had getting pregnant again. I cried not necessarily because I was upset that she was pregnant and I'm not, but because that simple gesture showed me that she cared and that … [Read more...]

Week5-3

I thought I might have something interesting and insightful to share today to go along with my 52 Faces post. Thought I could be as profound in my posts as Laura is in hers, but I'm just not. At least, not this week. This week we've done a whole lot of snow-shoveling, movie watching, Wordpress Site Installing and Cars playing. We've gotten another foot or so of snow this week (that's a rough estimate...I'm only going off of how many inches I have shoveling since Sunday) that's resulted in … [Read more...]

Week3-7

I have to start by saying that this is the last set of pictures I'll be taking...with my Canon Rebel. Because I ordered my new Canon 7D on Tuesday and it will be here before next Wednesday's Project 52 shoot! I. am. ecstatic. I've been itching to upgrade for months and months and months, especially since I started shooting in manual. My Rebel is a fantastic camera, but I feel extremely limited by it's ISO capabilities. Especially here in Kodiak where the lighting is so blue and dim. I feel … [Read more...]

I don't know how many of you out there follow football, but Monday night was a big night for us Crimson Tide fans. Our beloved team beat LSU 21-0 in the BCS National Championship Game, bringing home National Title #14 for us Bamers. It was a great night to be a SEC Football fan. So, when it came time to take pictures this week for my 52 Faces challenge, I knew that getting Little Man all dressed up in a bit of Alabama attire would be necessary. After all, this is the second National … [Read more...]

52 Faces | Week 1

Is anyone other than me having a hard time getting into the swing of things now that Christmas and the holidays are over? What is it about that first week back that just seems to drag and drag and drag? I can't seem to find a whole lot of motivation; which sounds funny considering how much work I've actually got done this week. I mentioned Monday that I had a few projects up my sleeve for 2012. One of those is a Project 52 challenge (take one photo a week for an entire year). I gave Project … [Read more...]

This year we went out on a limb and gave our families a really custom and really sentimental gift. We sent gift cards, too just so they'd have something a little more "physical" to use for the holidays, but I think the highlight of their Christmas was this video we had made by our family friend and uber-talented neighbor Amy from Simply B Photos. One of the hardest aspects of being a military family is being away from family during the holidays. We love having our own lives and being able to … [Read more...]

Nothing makes this little boy happier than a day in the snow. You'd never know that he was born in Florida and spent a better part of his life enjoying warm temperatures, ridiculous humidity and the beach scene. While he adores the water and being near the ocean, this kid loves the snow. Sledding, snowball fights, snowmen...you name it and he's game. He never hesitates to throw on his "big boy boots" and grab his sled for some playtime with daddy or the big kids next door. And that big … [Read more...]

Growing up in Alabama, we never got to experience a Snow Day. When we did get snow (which, anyone living in the deep south knows only happens once every 10 years or so...) it was only enough to cover the ground. Maybe an inch if we were really lucky. Snow is just not in the climate down there. So, when we found out we were moving to Alaska, you can imagine my excitement at the idea of living somewhere that is was not only cold, but somewhere that received a legitimate amount of snow every … [Read more...]

I wanted you guys to see what I’ve been dealing with up to lately. You know, since I’ve been somewhat MIA…Business is GOOD which means that I am super busy. I should be caught up and on a slightly normal routine by Monday! But for now… …Cleaning up messes like this. Chocolate on the face (and clothes. And carpet. And walls…) as a result of eating Raisinets unattended while mommy was working on a new website design.     …Baking cakes and enjoying the company of … [Read more...]
